About us

We are a registered charity, enjoying Organisation status within the Age Concern Federation.  Founded in 1950 as the Berkshire Voluntary Committee for Older People, Age Concern Berkshire has grown and evolved over the years.  The organisation today runs a number of services for older people, whilst maintaining its original role of influencing public opinion.

We have around 20 staff and 80 volunteers, who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. But all have a common purpose:

  • to inform and assist frail, older people, and

  • to encourage them towards independence, self-care, and mutual support.

 Age Concern Berkshire,

its Trustees, and

Age Concern, The Federation

Age Concern Berkshire is an independent, autonomous charity, governed by a board of trustees.  The trustees ensure that we fulfil our charitable purpose, work within the law, and that our organisation is well - managed.  The trustees all act in a voluntary capacity.

Our membership of the national federation improves support for our work and increases our access to resources. It also ensures that, along with other Age Concern groups and organisations, we meet a common working standard through a system of quality counts.  All members of the federation subscribe to the set of values set out on the right.

Age Concern Values

The Age Concern Federation has five core values, which Age Concern Berkshire expresses in all its work.

Enabling: By being dependable, approachable, and available and helping older people to achieve their aims

Influencing: Challenging and campaigning to influence public opinion and decision makers at all levels

Dynamic: By adopting a proactive and innovative approach to our activities

Expert: By constantly updating and maintaining the knowledge and skill upon which our activities depend

Caring: By listening, caring, and responding to people (users, donors, staff, supporters etc).
